Introduction to Horses

Driftwood, Texas

“The horse will teach you if you‘ll listen.”
Ray Hunt

Curious about horses? Maybe you loved horses as a child before grownup duties took over your life. Or you’ve always been drawn to horses, but are a little scared of them (they are pretty big, after all). Maybe your children ride and you’d like to understand their passion better. Or you would just enjoy a fun experience meeting horses in a natural setting.

The Horse Wise Workshop is a hands-on “meet & greet” with horses in a supportive, outdoorsy and fun environment. You will learn how to:

  • understand horse body language
  • approach horses safely
  • handle horses on the ground
  • read equine personalities
  • talk with horse people (or horse kids) without being confused
  • relax and enjoy being around horses

Format

The format includes demonstrations, guided round pen exercises, supervised horse handling and plenty of laughter. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Sessions will be limited to 3-4 people to allow quality one-on-one time with the teacher and horses. Setting is a small, peaceful Driftwood farm with oak trees, roadrunners and friendly horses. 30 minutes from Austin and just 5 minutes from downtown Dripping Springs.

Teachers

Lynn Reardon and the horses (Flavor, Santo and other equine guest lecturers)
